The Peanuts specials were never really touted as great animation but everytime I watch The Great Pumpkin, I end up getting lost in the backgrounds. The autumn settings and the nightime “war” settings bring me back to chilhood faster than a Proust’s Madelaine cookies. Justin Hildend has written an essay on the colour choices for the special and can be found here (this link is thanks to the Cartoon Brew site).

I wasn’t writing posts in September so I wasn’t able to mention the passing of Heinz Edelmann (June 20, 1934 – July 21, 2009) The German illustrator and designer of Yellow submarine. He also did the cover for xtc’s Oranges & Lemons which contained maybe my fave xtc songs, The Mayor of Simpleton.

Another of the great unappreciated bands, The Close Lobsters has a new collection that just went up on emusic. Plenty of old songs that are new to me. Please check them out.
