While I’m at it, this is a recent discovery for me. I basically knew “Everyday I Have to Cry Some” by the Johnny Rivers cover (which is fantastic).  The Gentrys version is pretty great as well.

“I Found Someone Of My Own”

The Bro and myself were on a mini roadtrip taking our mum to the Kingston hospital and found that local (Peterborough) oldies station, KRUZ AM’s signal made it for the trip. I’ve mentioned the station before, I like the fact that the playlist goes deeper than the other oldie stations. On the way back we heard this rare gem.  Luckily it was one of the songs they actually announced. We heard “Free Movement” but that sounded like a name that you mishear. Sure enough that was the name of the band. Check out either the YouTube or Daily Motion links below:

MOJO – Island Records

The latest issue of MOJO magazine features stories on Chris Blackwell, Nick Drake and Island Record‘s 50th anniversary. Accordingly the freebie CD that is issued with the mag is a selection of cuts from Island’s folk acts from the 60s/70s. Nick Drake wasn’t represented but he has been pretty exposed since Volkswagen’s “Pink Moon” ad. The CD includes multiple cuts from Sandy Denny and John Marty and is one of the best freebies I’ve heard in a while.

This issue isn’t on the stands yet (I subscribe) but should be out soon. Look for it.

Here’s the Volkswagen ad, a gem.

NPR is currently streaming the upcoming collaboration between Mark (Sparklehorse) Linkuous and Danger Mouse. It is studded with guests like Iggy Pop and Grandaddy’s Jason Lytle.  It will be released in a limited edition of 5,000 including photos by David Lynch. So far I haven’t found a place to pre-order.
