A while back I discovered a few Cul de Sac animations on Youtube. They were produced by Ring Tales and I assumed they were from some pilot project. I was happy to find out how many animations were created:

I was filing some of my recently played CDs and came across Chitlin Fooks. I didn’t remember the CD but it was clearly Carol van Dyk of Bettie Serveert fame on the cover. Turns out it was a side project from a few years back with collaborator Pascal Deweze and friends playing Americana as only a bunch of Belgians (and one Canadian) can.

For good measure, a vintage Bettie Serveert clip:

None of the PBS stations I have received seem to carry the show “We Have Signal” produced by the Birmingham PBS station. It’s a shame, there are a few of their episodes floating around the interwebs including one by Camera Obscura.

I’ve been meaning to post a reference to Richard Thompson’s comic strip, Cul de Sac for a while now. You won’t find it in your newspaper colour supplement, which is an unforgivabnle sin. Even if you used every ounce of generosity within yourself, it would be difficult to come up with a dozen acceptable comic strips, never mind actual good comic strips, and yet you have to go to the interwebs to find Cul de Sac.  It has everything a great strip needs: well-developed characters, great draftsmanship and it is actually funny! Thompson’s blog is worth checking out, back ground on his strips, extra artwork and he updates it regularly.

The Fanclub’s new album “Shadows” has put them top of mind and had me exploring some of their older tracks. Years ago I had bought a soundtrack album for a movie called “Judgement Night”, a movie I knew nothing about. I was a fan of a couple tracks on it tho’. Including this one:

I had put Aim’s “Means Of Production” in my emusic save list long ago. I tend to throw albums in there when I have run out of downloads but want to explore when my credits refresh. There are always new albums to explore and the “saved items” get lost. I finally went back to this album and ended up downloading the whole album. Here’s a sample song:

I have a weekness for poster art books. Some of the books become a quick read but I ended up savouring this one from http://juxtapoz.com/ , parsing out the chapters a couple at a time. A ot of new screen artists are bundled with the likely candidates (Shepard Fairey, Little Friends of Printmaking).
