I have been waiting for Jim Gaffigan’s new album to show up on e-music. It has a debut date of March 31st, it’s official release date, but it didn’t make it to the Canadian site until this week. While downloading I checked to see if there was anything new from Comedy Central on the site and found one from Mitch Hedberg. I’m not actually familiar with him but recognized the cover from my brother’s amazon wish list. I downloaded the album and also used the interwebs for some background info. I was saddened to find out that this was a posthumous release. The stuff I was finding on youtube certainly has me wishing he had time to produce more.

What Is Life

For many years now I have always considered the beginning of spring to be the first warm sunny day of the year when I hear George Harrison’s “What Is Life” on the radio. Today local oldies station, KRUZ (there is a streamingfeed on the site)  accommodated me. Although I seem to have broken my rule that I should actually hear it from my car window. If they had played it one hour earlier it would have been perfect. KRUZ by the way is far better than the average oldies station. It’s playlist goes much deeper and they actually play some pretty obscure cuts that aren’t even CanCon.

Speaking of cherry picking soundtrack albums on e-music (as I was in the previous post), the OST of Observe and Report has so far escaped that constraint.  That means you can actually find a Band song (“When I Paint My Masterpiece”) on e-music. Or Little River Band if you are so inclined. The soundtrack also includes the under appreciated 60’s song, “Brain” by The Action. The Action also has a greatest hits album (Rolled Gold) worth downloading.

Kitsune Tabloid – Phoenix

Kitsune Tabloid is a french version of the British cd series “Under The Influence” and “Late Night Tales”.  Basically compilation albums curated by invited musicians. The guest host makes selections from their personal record collections and for the most part try to make as eclectic choices as possible. Sort of like college radio. French Pop group Phoenix are the hosts of the second Kitsune Tabloid and popped up on e-music yesterday. It is one of the rare opportunities to find major label material on the site like Roxy Music, Dusty Springfield and the Impressions. I didn’t get around to posting this yesterday which is too bad as the status of downloading the album changed. I was able to cherry pick tracks but today you can only download the album as a whole, sometimes wasting your track allotments. Sadly this is becoming a trend on e-music.

Gumnaam

This is the clip that Ghostworld begins with as Enid dances to the Bollywood film, Gumnaam. I love the tune and the dance routine always makes me smile. John-O first brought this to my attention and I like to bring it up often. Usually when drinking.

This is the trailer for Gumnaam.
